1. INFORMATION
---------------

2022 A Doom Odyssey is a complete replacement for id software's game Ultimate Doom. It is a tribute to the original
2002ado released 20 years ago but with all new maps and music. The megawad took over 5 years to create.

Features:

- 5 episodes for Ultimate Doom
- Evolving Theme that is similar to the original Doom game
- Realistic levels
- Tons of secrets
- All new music
- Co-op and Deathmatch starts (though 2022ado is designed for Single Player)
- All difficulty settings
- All in one WAD -- no complicated start-up
- Built in MAPINFO
- Built in UMAPINFO
- Built in DEHACKED
- Designed for Boom compatible source ports

WHAT'S NEW

- Absolutely Everything

----------------------
2. REQUIREMENTS
----------------------

2022 A Doom Odyssey is designed to run under a Boom Compatible Sourceport. Most maps will not run under
Doom.exe due to its limits and features (like MIDI music and possible Visplane Overflows). To play 2022ado you'll need to
download one of the following source ports.

MINIMUM

- The (Ultimate) Doom Game (Doom.wad)
- TeamTNT's Boom Engine (www.teamtnt.com)

RECOMMENDED

- Prboom-Plus (latest version 2.62 that supports UMAPINFO)
- Zdoom
- Gzdoom

---------------
3. INSTALLATION
---------------

Firstly you'll need a copy of the game Ultimate Doom by id software installed on your PC. This is required
since 2022ado will not run standalone.

Unzip 2022ado.WAD into your Doom directory. If you've downloaded Zdoom. Drag 2022ado.WAD into
the ZDOOM.EXE icon and if you have the DOOM.WAD IWAD it will automatically run 2022ado using the DOOM IWAD.
With Boom please use the -file parameter to play this wad. (-iwad doom.wad -file 2022ado.wad)

If you are using DOS to run 2022ado.wad. Go into your doom directory and type boom -iwad
doom.wad -file 2022ado.wad and press ENTER. However this is untested.

4. STORY
------------

20 years later an unknown signal has been detected from Jigoku, a hellish place from the Proxima Centauri
system originally thought to have been defeated. Sounds kinda disturbing, but the hellspawn has been resurrected
and you have been sent on a mission to block their path. Upon arrival, you enter the base and fight your way
though the dark corridors. As you progress things start to turn nasty, it gets darker, the stench increases
and the sweat blisters out of your oily skin. With the earth base and nearby hell cooked, you are teleported
to Proxima Centauri D (Jigoku) to finish the job. So grab that gun, lock, load and rip and tear and show those
Demons who the boss truly is.

5. LEVEL CREDITS
-------------------

Who designed the levels?

Paul Corfiatis (Pcorf): 37
Kristian Aro (Nebula): 9
Christian N. Hansen: 3
Richie Skarj Gay: 1

All episodes follow a similar style to the original Ultimate Doom/Death Tormention/SIGIL.

EPISODE 1: STARBASE ANTIPATHY

Episode 1 only uses textures and resources that would be present in the shareware Doom1.wad
and the style is Episode 1, although more in the Pcorf style design-wise than John Romero style.

E1M1: - Endoom Trance by Kristian Aro and Paul Corfiatis
E1M2: - Atomic Research by Paul Corfiatis
E1M3: - Computer Plant by Paul Corfiatis
E1M4: - RoboDen by Paul Corfiatis
E1M5: - Suspense Base by Paul Corfiatis
E1M6: - Engineering by Christian N. Hansen and Paul Corfiatis
E1M7: - Alpha Starport by Paul Corfiatis
E1M8: - Paradigm by Paul Corfiatis
E1M9: - Central Refinery by Christian N. Hansen

Weapons used: Chainsaw, Shotgun, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher
Enemies used: Former Soldiers, Former Sergeants, Imps, Demons, Spectres, Barons of Hell

Episode 1 level notes

E1M1 - Was started by Kristian but completed by Paul. Kristian worked on the starting
area and Paul worked on the area SE of the map to the yellow key and exit area in the
north of the map. This map is extremely easy and in fact so easy that if you die on
skill 1 you may need a good slap.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E1M3 - Beautiful and partially interconnected with great atmosphere. Finding the secret
exit requires access to the helipad. There are some unusual doors all which count towards the
secret tally and they may help you solve the puzzle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E1M6 - Consists of two maps by Chris Hansen from a rejected episode pasted together.
Paul created the Red Key area with the Imps on the pillars as well which sandwitches
Chris Hasnen's maps as well the outdoor areas in the east and north of the map.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E1M7 - A huge map with greatly increased challenge and interonnecting layout. One of
Paul's personal favorites.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E1M8 - Was the first map to be created for 2022ADO. The name Paradigm is unreleated to the
loudspeaker company. In fact it is more related to the original 2002ado name Paradox. With
the death exit similar to the original Doom E1M8, 100% kills is almost impossible.

EPISODE 2: GATEWAY TO JIGOKU

This episode slowly evolves from base into hell. Cacodemons and Lost Souls are
introduced as well as the plasma rifle. The half unfeeling machine, half raging
horned devil aka The Cyberdemon lord awaits in his fortress.

E2M1: - Shogun by Kristian Aro and Paul Corfiatis*
E2M2: - Stronghold by Paul Corfiatis
E2M3: - Budonoki by Paul Corfiatis
E2M4: - Shipping by Paul Corfiatis
E2M5: - Akuma by Paul Corfiatis
E2M6: - Damned Outpost by Paul Corfiatis
E2M7: - Osore by Paul Corfiatis
E2M8: - Escape From Babel by Paul Corfiatis
E2M9: - Infernal Scorn by Paul Corfiatis
* Was started by Kristian Aro but finished by Paul Corfiatis

Weapons used: Chainsaw, Shotgun, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle
Enemies used: Former Soldiers, Former Sergeants, Imps, Demons, Spectres, Lost Souls,
Cacodemons, Barons of Hell, The Cyberdemon

Episode 2 level notes

The map names for E2M1, E2M3, E2M5 and E2M7 are in Japanese as well as the episode name.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M1 - was started by Kristian way back in 2002 and was intended to be E2M1 of 2002ado but
he was unable to complete the map. Paul however discovered the incomplete map and completed
the level. About 70% of the map was designed by Paul. Paul created the remainder of the
episode. The music was inspired by the original 2002ado E2M1 with usage of the banjo. The map
contains a large room of crates and one of the secrets may be of a familiar area.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M3 - Budonoki, aka Vines in Japanese. This map is heavily textured in vine textures although
the Southeastern area resembles the bridge of a spaceship. Paul always wanted to have an E2 map
heavily textured with vines so here it is.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M4 - Paul's personal favorite map in the megawad. A beautiful interconnected layout and kick
ass music to go with it. Other people may disagree. But I am a narcassist for my own pride. -PC.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M5 - The skin texture is a blend of the Doom Skin and the cuts from a top foot injury from
Kristian's wife caused by a horseriding incident. These textures make frequent appearances
throughout the megawad. Also finding the secret exit is like solving a crazy puzzle and from
the start you must find an open door somewhere before it closes for good after 30 seconds.
But don't despair, there is another area where you can reopen the door but it requires lots
of skill and thought.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M7 - is designed to resemble the style of John W. Anderson aka Dr. Sleep and the difficulty takes
a sharp increase. It can be as hard as hell on UV and if you are not careful you are dead meat.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M8 - the music in this map is a remix of a rejected song from The Twilight Zone II Final
Dreams. A doom 2 megawad created by Paul during his early years of mapping. The map can be brutally
tough if you aren't careful.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M9 - A linear hellish map with intense ambushes. In deathmatch mode areas open up allowing the map
to be vastly more interconnected.

EPISODE 3: AL DANTE

Episode 3 was mostly created by Kristian Aro and introduces the super hellish style that
was similar to the hell maps in Whispers of Satan. The episode builds into it's climax
mid episode and then eases off. You must defeat the loathsome Spiderdemon to win the
episode.

E3M1: - Disturbing Comfort by Kristian Aro
E3M2: - The Ravenous Canyon by Kristian Aro
E3M3: - Essence of Blood by Kristian Aro
E3M4: - Disquietude Consternation by Paul Corfiatis
E3M5: - Putrescent Dirge by Kristian Aro
E3M6: - Lament Configuration by Kristian Aro
E3M7: - Loviatar by Kristian Aro
E3M8: - Dementertainment Loop by Kristian Aro
E3M9: - Lemarchand's Retreat by Paul Corfiatis

Weapons used: Chainsaw, Shotgun, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, BFG9000
Enemies used: Former Soldiers, Former Sergeants, Imps, Demons, Spectres, Lost Souls,
Cacodemons, Barons of Hell, The Cyberdemon, The Spiderdemon

Episode 3 level notes.

E3M1 - was the second level completed for 2022ado and is similar to E3M1 from Doom.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E3M4 - was created by Paul who tried to emulate Kristian's style, especially in the
southern outdoor area.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E3M5 - is where hell reaches it's peak with 699 monsters on UV. This huge map will test
any Doom master to their limits. Insense ambushes amongst other things.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E3M9 - was intended to be a remix of E1M1 but Paul decided to create a completely original
map instead. You can telefrag the cyberdemon.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kristian also composed the midis for E3M3 and E3M8.

EPISODE 4: TORMENTED SUFFERING

Episode 4 was mostly inspired from the Death Tormention Series and Thy Flesh Consumed
before gradually moving towards a SIGIL theme. Two Spiderdemons await before the gateway
to SIGIL.

E4M1: - Tormental by Paul Corfiatis
E4M2: - Bloodgore by Paul Corfiatis
E4M3: - Mysteries of Hades by Paul Corfiatis
E4M4: - Valley of Afterlife by Christian N. Hansen and Paul Corfiatis
E4M5: - Trepidation by Richie Skarj Gay, Christian N Hansen and Paul Corfiatis*
E4M6: - Fort Docks by Paul Corfiatis
E4M7: - Impious Alcazar by Paul Corfiatis
E4M8: - Gateway To SIGIL by Paul Corfiatis
E4M9: - The Calm by Paul Corfiatis
* E4M5 was a 2002 ado reject but was tuned up and completed for 2022ado.

Weapons used: Chainsaw, Shotgun, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, BFG9000
Enemies used: Former Soldiers, Former Sergeants, Imps, Demons, Spectres, Lost Souls,
Cacodemons, Barons of Hell, The Cyberdemon, The Spiderdemon

Episode 4 level notes.

E4M1 - Paul attempts to replicate the styles of Kristian Nebula Aro and Chris Hansen in this map.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E4M3 - The area after the blue key door is taken from an area in one of Paul's early unreleased maps.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E4M4 - Was mostly designed by Chris Hansen with Paul working on the final cavern area as
well as various touchups.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E4M5 - The first area was started by Richie "Skarj" Gay which originally intended to be E4M1
of 2002ADO but was rejected. The second area was created by Paul and final area mostly by
Chris but textured by Paul. Paul created the exit room and worked on the architecture and
detail for the entire map with major touchups for Richie's area. He is no longer an active
member of the Doom community so there is no way I can notify him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E4M9 - Replicates the style of Dr. Sleep but as a techbase instead.

EPISODE 5: INCENDIO CRUCIO

This bonus episode was inspired by John Romero's SIGIL with hell cracks, extreme battles
and ambushes galore. The only hitscanners present are some Spiderdemons and Tommy the Trooper
who stands at the edge of the final cliff awaiting a point blank BFG blast. All maps were
made by Paul and he also handpicked music composed by James Paddock (aka Jimmy). The sky
in this episode is original and created by Pcorf. Continuing the SIGIL tradition all maps
contain a separate deathmatch area.

E5M1: - Phenex by Paul Corfiatis
E5M2: - Andrealphus by Paul Corfiatis
E5M3: - Ukobach by Paul Corfiatis
E5M4: - Leraje by Paul Corfiatis
E5M5: - Orobas by Paul Corfiatis
E5M6: - Ronove by Paul Corfiatis
E5M7: - Eligos by Paul Corfiatis
E5M8: - Naberius by Paul Corfiatis
E5M9: - A Doomed Odyssey by Paul Corfiatis

Weapons used: Chainsaw, Shotgun, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, BFG9000
Enemies used: Former Soldier, Imps, Demons, Spectres, Lost Souls, Cacodemons, Barons of Hell,
The Cyberdemon, The Spiderdemon

Episode 5 level notes.

E5M3 - Telefrag the cyberdemons to proceed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E5M4 - The red key is optional but vital in order to finding the secret exit or getting 100%
kills. The map starts linear but turns to non linear as new hidden areas open up south of the
starting point.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E5M7 - As soon as you pass through the blue key door there is triangular pattern on the floor
and the ceiling. This is a tribute to the UAC logo.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E5M8 - due to the music selection Paul decided to include some unique ceiling vine textures
in order to create an area resembling a forest. A sign you have almost escaped from the
depths of hell. But the monsters have one final trick up their sleeves by disappearing
and reappearing in other areas in the opening courtyard. The map will be much more easy if you
are lucky to get one of the cyberdemons stuck on a pillar. At the exit you meet your wife Stephanie
who has arrived to collect you and take you home. Tommy the trooper is imprisoned on a platform
overlooking a canyon so feel free to BFG him off with all your might. Also near the exit is
an Easter egg which contains a slideshow of Paul's previous adventures.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E5M9 - is a remix of Paul's past maps. This includes areas from 2002ado, Simply Phobos
Whispers of Satan and the deathmatch area is a remix of maps from 2001dm. The existing
areas are interconnected by new areas which open up the map as you progress. A tricky
spiderdemon fight is in the final area. This big, beautiful UAC base resembles a museum
of Paul's past mapping ventures.

BONUS MAPS

Each episode contains a super secret E*M10 only accessible in MAPINFO ports. All maps are very
hard to find and the super secret exits which are hidden from the automap do not count as
a secret area. It will take some figuring out to find these maps but once you figure it out
the strategy to find the maps are similar. These maps are not the greatest and are just designed
to be fun to play. All maps were created by Paul Corfiatis.

E1M10 - Baron's Pacman Delights
E2M10 - Frog.wad
E3M10 - Bunny.wad
E4M10 - Pigeon.wad
E5M10 - Plasma

Bonus map level notes.

E1M10 - is based on the first maze in Ms Pac Man. There are 4 Barons which replace the ghosts.
1 on skill 1/2, 3 on skill 3, 4 on skill 4. Killing all the Barons reveals the exit and ends
the episode.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E2M10 - a slaughtermap, is shaped like an American Bullfrog on the automap.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E3M10 - another slaughtermap, is shaped like a Rabbit on the automap.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E4M10 - yet another slaughtermap, is shaped like a Rock Pigeon on the automap.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E5M10 - nearly all textures are on fire, hence the name Plasma. There are 666 monsters, 66 items and
6 secrets.

SECRET EXITS

Secret exits can be found in the following levels below:

- E1M3 to E1M9
- E2M5 to E2M9
- E3M6 to E3M9
- E4M2 to E4M9
- E5M4 to E5M9
- E1M8 to E1M10*
- E2M9 to E2M10
- E3M9 to E3M10
- E4M9 to E4M10
- E5M9 to E5M10

* Works only in Zdoom

The aim of the design.
- Similar themes to the original Ultimate Doom/Death Tormention/Sigil but in all new maps.
It is like you are playing Doom all over again.
- The most realistic environment possible, gradient lighting between areas, height variations
  and much more.
- A medium difficulty level similar to the original id maps.
- Non symmetrical interconnecting layout (although certain rooms are symmetrical)
while maintaining a mostly linear progression. However you do revisit areas from time to time.
- Been able to see a key door before you could find that particular key.
- Lots of ambushes as you'd expect.
- An increased use in traps such as crushers and occasional rooms going dark.
- Once again a complete new original musical soundtrack in MIDI format in the first 4
episodes. Handpicked Jimmy songs for episode 5.

KNOWN ISSUES

During the public beta development we have tried our best to eradicate mistakes and we
can thank the community for their inputs.

Many maps contain minor slimetrails due to the extreme detail in them. If playing in Gzdoom
the slimetrails are not an issue.

The crusher at the secret exit in E3M6 does not work in non Zdoom ports. This only makes
the secret exit more easy to access and does not affect gameplay.

ENEMIES

2022ADO is based on the Ultimate Doom. The existing enemies are used.

FORMER SOLDIERS - Once a Marine, always a Marine - except in this case.
These guys may look like your old buddies, but now they're nothing more
than pistol-toting, bi-pedal maggots. Waste 'em!
Note: Also known as the Zombieman.

FORMER SERGEANTS - Same as the Former Soldiers, but much meaner,
and tougher. These walking shotguns will provide you with a few extra holes if
you're not careful.
Note: Also known as the Shotgun Guy.

IMPS - You thought an imp was a cute little dude in a red suit with a pitchfork.
Think again. This Imp heaves balls o' fire down your throat and takes several
bullets to die. It's time to find a better weapon than a pistol if you're going to
face more than one of these mutants.

DEMONS - Sorta like shaved gorillas, except with horns, big heads. They
don't kill easy. Get too close and they'll rip your sorry head off.

SPECTRES - Great. Just what you needed. A nearly invisible monster.

LOST SOULS - Dumb. Tough. Flies. On Fire. 'Nuff said!

CACODEMONS - They float in the air, belch ball-lightning and boast one
horrendously big mouth. You're toast if you get too close to these
monstrosities.

BARONS OF HELL - As tough as a dump truck and nearly as big, these bruisers
are the worst thing on two legs since Tyrannosaurus Rex.

CYBERDEMON - Half unfeeling machine, half raging horned devil. This walking
nightmare has a rocket launcher for an arm and will definitely reach out and
touch you. Make sure you're loaded with bear before you get to this guy.

SPIDERDEMON - Think of the pain a Black Widow causes when you
disturb her nest. Then think what happens when you stir up one the size of a
M60 tank. She shoots a chaingun. Could put a Big Hurt on you.
Note: Also known as the Spider Mastermind.
